Comment: Looking towards the valley from below the monastery. It was a quiet, cold day in November. Apparently around 1,000,000 people pass through here every year. This was the off season though, so for the most part we had none or only a few fellow visitors at any one time.
Meteora 001 * These pictures are from a place called Meteora in northern Greece. Meteora means 'suspended in air'. This name is fitting becaues the area is famous for monasteries perched up on amazing rock formations. This is the Great Metereon Monastery. * 1600 x 1200 * (505KB)

Meteora 005 * Now inside the monastery...there aren't a lot of pictures indoors. Some of the things we saw were museums, relic rooms, and frescoed chapels where you couldn't take pictures. * 1200 x 1600 * (471KB)

Meteora 006 * This is an ossuary (sp?) where the skulls of monks are stored. Some are rumored to still give off fragrant scents and perform miracles * 1600 x 1200 * (524KB)
