Trebuchets were the pinnacle of siege engineering before gunpowder came along. The largest ones stood over four stories tall, weighed thirty tons, and could fire a 250-pound rock 300 yards. In England, they were called ingenium, and their designers and operators, the ingeniators, became todays engineers.
