What's the Deal with Sigma Chi?
If you've ever been up to a BBQ at Raymond House, danced on a bar to
classic rock, had a bunch of pledges sing to you outside your dorm or
been to a blood drive at Old Chapel then you've probably run into the
brothers of Sigma Chi. We "Sigs" are 55 jolly lads who share our home
with the lovely ladies of SDT in Raymond House on Lennox Road. Sigma Chi
as an organization has been around for over 150 years and has been on Union's
campus since 1923.
International in every sense of
the word:
Sigma Chi has 218 chapters all across the US and even Canada with
well over 200,000 alumni world-wide. Having so many chapters open to you
with thousands of alumni ready to assist a fellow brother is a quite an
honor and a privilege. Through our national headquarters, we are striving
to become a premier college leadership organization. We are doing this
through leadership programs for our brothers like Sigma Chi Horizons and
the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop held annually to train and inspire
our fraternity's future leaders (which Res Life's own Todd Clark once
helped organize when he was working at Kansas State!)
What we're about:
The fundamental purpose of the Sigma Chi Fraternity is the cultivation,
maintenance, and accomplishment of the ideals of Friendship, Justice and
Learning. We here at Union try to do this by cheering on our brothers
at basketball games and intramural sports, holding social events and philanthropy
for the campus to come and share our fellowship and hospitality, and striving
to be successful student leaders in all aspects of campus life.
Being a Sigma Chi is incredibly fun and rewarding. Being a member fosters
leadership, builds character, and promote positive relationship skills
which, it is our hope, will enable our members to become productive and
caring participants in their families, colleges and communities. It is
a life-long commitment and a big responsibility.
What's Next:
We have big plans for the future here at Sigma Chi. We are hoping to
do a Spring Rush for those Sophomores who have taken the year to see what
we're about are now ready to join Greek life here at Union. We're
also planning to do "Derby Days"again this spring, This is
a fundraiser that is conducted annually by most chapters in Sigma Chi
nationally to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. And
finally, if you like sports as much as we do, come join the Spring Basketball
League we help organize every year. It's open to everyone!
So if you're ever up campus, drop by and come see us or visit our website:
(www.sigmachi.org). Our doors are open to
you.
All the best,
Nick Salvatoriello and
the Brothers of the Gamma Zeta Chapter of Sigma Chi
