About Student Investment Fund (SIF)

This Fund has been established by Heinz and Ruthe Eppler by outright gifts to Union College. Mr. and Mrs. Eppler are the parents of two Union alumni, Nancy Eppler Wolff ’75 and David Eppler ’82 The Epplers served as co-chairman of the Union College Parents Committee and Mr. Eppler was elected a Trustee of the College in 1982.

 Purpose

The Union College Student Investment Fund has been established to provide selected Union College students with the opportunity to gain experience in the full range of management decisions encountered in the management of an investment portfolio. The donors recognize that the students involved with the management of this fund are not professional managers and are given this opportunity so as to gain personal "hands on" experience.

Utilization of Fund Income

On an annual basis for the College and fund fiscal year income, defined as interest and dividends, may be utilized for such purposes as shall be recommended to the faculty committee by the student managers and approved by them. Such income expenditures shall be for purposes which will enhance the Student Investment Fund Program. Examples of such expenditures would be:

    1. Purchase of reference materials
    2. Attendance at meeting and conferences
    3. Travel to meet with financial firms
    4. Establishing of externships with financial news
