Requirements for Membership into Psi Chi

Applicants must meet both national and local requirements. Applications can be picked up from the Psi Chi bulletin board on the 3rd floor of Bailey, and turned in to the secretary's office.

National Requirements

1.  Undergraduates who are elected to Psi Chi must rank in the upper 35% of their class in general scholarship.  In those rare instances in which the upper 35% falls below a 3.00, students must also have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00.  They must also demonstrate superior scholarship in psychology, earning a minimum GPA in psychology courses of 3.00.  With regard to membership qualifications, Psi Chi accepts the policy of the institution regarding grades.

2.  Completion of at least 3 semesters or 5 quarters of the college course.

3.  Completion of 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of psychology.

4.  Registration for major or minor standing in psychology or for a program psychological in nature which is equivalent to such standings.

5.  For graduate students, an average grade of "B" or better in all graduate courses, including psychology.

6.  High standards of personal behavior.

7.  Two-thirds affirmative vote of those present at a regular meeting of the chapter.

Union College Chapter Requirements

1.  Undergraduates who are elected to Psi Chi must rank in the upper 35% of their class in general scholarship.

2.  Prior to induction, a Psi Chi member has proven their scholarship in the field of psychology by achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average in psychology.

3.  Completion of at least 4 courses in psychology over at least 5 terms at Union College

4.  Registration for major, minor, or interdepartmental major standing in psychology.
