Previous:

  • On Monday November 6, 2006 Campus Action hosted Tom Weidlinger's Swim for the River to be shown on Campus for free on behalf of Moira Productions. The event is cosponsored by Environmental Club and WMHT Television. The event drew 75 people from the Union College and Schenectady Community and was featured on the Union News Site at http://www.union.edu/N/DS/s.php?s=6752
  • In Early November Campus Action hosted a "Get the Vote Out" Phone Tree and Mid-Term Election Celebration!
  • On Thursday October 19, 2006 7:30 (Old Chapel): Sir, No Sir was shown as part of the progressive movie series with a discussion led by Professor Sharlet.
  • On October 5, 2006 at 7:30 Union College kicked off its Progressive movie series with Why We Fight, a film by Eugene Jarecki. The film drew approximately 20, conflicting with a class and seminar on campus.
  • From September 27 through October 2 Campus Action held voter registration in the campus center for voters in all states.
  • On September 26, 2006 Campus Action hosted "Eyes Wide Open" illustrating the costs of the Iraq War. A pair of boots were out on the lawn in front of the campus center memorializing each New York State soldier who died in Iraq. 100 pairs of shoes were present to represent the 100 civilians who have died for every one American soldier.

    2005 through 2006 Academic Year

  • On May 11, 2006 at 6:00 PM in Olin Auditorium the producers of Loose Change were on campus for a display of their film which has been picking up increasing attention as the alternative story to the 9/11 Commission Report. For more on the film visit http://www.loosechange911.com/
  • A representation of the Iraq War was placed on the quad for the week of May 2, 2006. See the Press Page for details.
  • On April 29, 2006 five Campus Action members attended the protest in NYC, protesting the War in Iraq. Notable figures such as Cindy Sheehan were present. Organizers estimated an overall attendance of 300,000 people. The trip was organized through Bethlehem Neighbors For Peace.
  • During the week of February 27 through March 3 Campus Action had a poster against racism and intolerance for signing by the Campus Community. The Poster was then displayed on campus.
  • Scott Ritter spoke on "Iraq: How We Got There, and Where We´re Going" on February 15th in the Campus Center Auditorium. Union College has released an official press release. The event was sponsored by U Program, The Department of Political Science, Green House, and Campus Action.
  • Campus Action has shown two films as part of its film series. The films shown so far this term have included: Wal-mart: The High Cost of Low Price (1/16/06) and Dead Man Walking (1/31/06).
  • Campus Action hosted Sargeant Dennis Kyne who spoke about the use of depleted uranium in Iraq (11/14/05). Over 40 students attended the talk sponsored by IEG, The Department of Physics and Astronomy, and Campus Action.
  • Co-sponsored a talk on the aftermath of New Orleans with Environmental Club. Professor Rodbell and Professor Tobiessen discussed the environmental impact of out water management policy of the Mississippi River as well as what could have been done differently in the past and what are possible future consequences.
  • Campus Action sponsored journalist and political prisoner visited Union College to discuss the School of the Americas in Fort Benning, GA on October 12, 2005.
  • On Wednesday September 28, 2005 at 5:30 in Old Chapel a panel of three religious speakers, Muslim Scholar Gengis Kahn, Campus Protestant Minister and Interfaith Chaplain Viki Brooks-McDonald, and Rabbi Matt Cutler explored how religion influences politics, notably women's issues. The event was sponsored by Campus Action, IEG, and Orange House. Food from the Taj Mahal was served and a reception was held following the event in Orange House. Over 40 students attended.
  • 20 Union College students attended the protest in Washington, DC on September 24, 2005.
  • Campus Action helped organize a talk on "Crawford, Camp Casey, and the Constitution" by Elaine Hills which was followed by a reception and discussion in the Great Room of Green House. The talk was on September 15, 2005 at 7 PM in Reamer Campus Center.

    2004 through 2005 Academic Year

  • Union College Campus Action held a Memorial for Iraq War Veterans and for civilians killed in Iraq by placing markers in the ground with the names and ages of every Iraq soldier who had died. The group also wore t-shirts highlighting the costs of the war. The Memorial was up from May 22, 2005 through May 26, 2005.
  • The group held a talk on the past and current politics of Iran, "Is Iran the Next US Target." Speakers included Professor Seyfollah Maleki of Physics, Professor Motahar of Economics, and Professor Lobe of Political Science. The panel opened up to questions on current socio-economic conditions and responded to Scott Ritter's statement and reasons the U.S. might involve itself with Iran militarily. The event was held on February 24, 2005 in Green House.
  • During the weekend of January 20, 2005 a contingent of Campus Action members travelled to Washington to protest the Bush inauguration. The students provided their own transportation as the first action of the year for the re-emerging group.

    2003 through 2004 Academic Year

  • 50 Union College students participated in the Women's Rights March in Washington, DC.
  • Campus Action sponsors the movie, "Uncovered: The Truth about the War in Iraq."
  • Campus Action sponsors a trip to see the political satire play, "Bread and Puppet."
