Due to the fact that this disorder is caused by a central nervous disorder, not much can be done to prevent paralysis. These central nervous disorders have a variety of causes including injury, stroke, brain stem impairment or infection. This disorder is prevented by maintaining general vocal health. Severe cases are prevented by addressing the disorder as soon as it is apparent. Waiting for conditions to improve may result in further vocal disorders.
