Contact Ulcer Treatment

Treatment:

Contact ulcers caused by excessive approximation have been improved with voice therapy. The patient is taught to use an appropriate pitch level   that causes minimal strain on the vocal cords. A speech pathologist will also work on relaxing the patient’s mouth and jaw during phonation. The patient will also learn to speak at a lower volume with no glottal attack.
Contact ulcers caused by acid reflux are typically treated with antiacids, elevation of the head during sleep, and voice therapy if surgery is deemed unnecessary.
