  • ABOUT NSBE

    The Mission

NSBE's mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers to EXCEL academically, succeed professionally and to positively impact the community.

    The Torch

The NSBE torch symbolizes our everlasting burning desire to achieve success in this competitive society and to affect a positive change on the quality of life for all people. The lightning bolt represents the striking impact that will be felt by the Society and industry due to the contributions and accomplishments made by dedicated members of the National Society of Black Engineers.

    The History

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a non-profit organization managed by students. It had its genesis at a national conference planned and hosted by the Society of Black Engineers at Purdue University in April, 1975. Black engineering students throughout the United States and Canada attended this event to lay the foundation for an organization which would promote the recruitment, retention and successful graduation of Blacks in engineering.

NSBE develops intensive programs for increasing the participation of Black and other under represented groups in the fields of engineering and the engineering technologies. In pursuit of this mission, NSBE operates through a unive'rsity-based structure coordinated through regional zones, and administered by the National Executive Board. Using this operational structure, NSBE initiates programs both, within and outside, the university community.

NSBE was incorporated in December 1976 in the state of Texas. It is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions are tax deductible.

The local chapters are the center of NSBE activity. Chapters create and conduct projects in the areas of pre-college student interaction, university academic support mechanisms and career guidance programs. NSBE chapters are located on accredited college and university campuses throughout the U.S. Additionally, NSBE has layed the foundation for international expansion.

    The Future

The future of the National Society of Black Engineers is unlimited. With the continued dedication of the members and supporters, NSBE can and will achieve its full potential. The projects listed above are but a small sample of the infinite possibilities...
