A Final Update???
EDIT: The Shettypalooza documentary is as done
as it will ever be, and should be on the "Movies" page.
Not really. But probably, for a while. Somewhere on this webserver
exists a rough cut of the Shettypalooza (maybe 2005?) documentary, which
has some pretty sweet tunes and features Varun Shetty's vocal
skillz. (See edit above)
Since this website probably doesn't make as much sense to the occasional
visitor as it once did, here's a brief bit about Naked Nott:
Naked Nott Productions was founded in 2004 by Varun Shetty and Daven
Amin. The title was coined by Varun, David "Daddy" Shulman quickly
signed up as the webmaster, and Ryan Brett joined the cast. The first
official Naked Nott Production was "Bust-A-Move", which was filmed,
edited, and produced in a single day, and elevated the group to stardom.
In those days, TvUC didn't exist at Union College, so this website was a quick way the NN members could link videos from their AIM (yes, old-school) away messages for mass consumption.
The vast majority of Naked Nott stuff was filmed in the span of 2004 to
2006, and as NN wasn't affiliated with the fledgling TV Station on
campus after its debut in 2005, NN films began to premiere in the
bi-annual cultural shows put on by Shakti, the South Asian Culture Club
of Union College. In 2006, Varun Shetty (and after some persuasion,
Daven Amin) went on to form the Shakti Video Squadron, a group dedicated
to producing video media exclusively for Shakti shows. As these men were
no longer producing material for Naked Nott, the website's content was
updated with the new SVS shows and commercials. Thus, the majority of media now provided by this site has a decidedly "brown" colouring.
If you're new to the site, and for some reason want to watch some
vintage undergraduate goodness, I personally recommend the following
(which you can find on the Movies section of the website) as they
haven't aged too poorly:
Naked Nott Productions
Bust-A-Move: The first true Naked Nott Production, with a
timeless
message.
Shetty Campaign(!!), and Shetty Campaign Press Release: The
Campaign Announcement was
conceived, filmed, and edited within 24 hours by Daven Amin in
collaboration with Mandeep Moondi. It's still fantastic. The Shetty
Press Release
video provided closure to fans who wanted to know how the election had gone, and stars Vincent Orlando.
India Match: Yes, it's Indian-themed, but it was filmed before
SVS
existed and it isn't too bad. Plus, Anjali Singla is a real person who
wanted to testify,
not an actress depicting a character like everyone else who appears
in the film!
Fair and Lovely: Not our usual editing style, but Varun's
editorial
debut, and boy is it a fine infomercial.
Shakti Video Squadron
Indian Office: These are good, aren't too dated, and although
they
rip off the TV show "The Office" unabashedly, they're still funny.
Pretty much all of the commercials. They're commercials, they age
fairly well.
Finally, since this may be the last update for many years, here's a
brief, unsolicited, and unauthorized bio of each of the original Naked
Nott Production members...
Varun Shetty - Varun graduated in Winter 2008, and has spent the following year in the Big Apple. He occasionally directs training videos, putting his NN skills to work, and when he's not working hard on redeeming humanity, he contributes to the Loser's Guide to NYC, which can be found at
http://losersguidenyc.blogspot.com/
David "Daddy" Shulman - Daddy graduated in Spring 2008, and spent the following year saving the world as a Minerva Fellow in Malawi. His blog, which details some of his experiences, can be found at
http://ublog.union.edu/shulmand/
Ryan Brett - Ryan disappeared from Union College just prior to Fall 2006. This disappearance has never been explained fully. Rumors circulate that he has a set of twins and has jumped the state border, residing with his girlfriend, fiance, or wife (depending on story) on the NJ/NY border. He is still believed to be pursuing undergraduate education, and there are eyewitness accounts from both Varun and Daven that he does in fact exist, as of March 2009.
Daven Amin - I can't write a bio about myself.. I just finished at Union in Winter 2009 (I beat you Ryan!) and clearly have nothing better to do with my life than write long useless updates on 5+ year old websites that I maintain.
There you have it. The Naked Nott story for the uninitiated. Enjoy the site.. and maybe someday there will be more content to put up here.
