When writing, I go by either my given name
or a pseudonym. Possible incarnations are:
|
|||||
| S.M.U.D.G.E. Era | |||||
| Whilst in high school, I wrote (read:
began, rarely finished) a number of pieces in the genres of science
fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, and general (contemporary)
fiction. These pieces are in no particular order since I have
generally forgotten which was written when.
|
|||||
| Post-S.M.U.D.G.E. Era I: College | |||||
| I did precious little writing in college,
save for a few pieces here and there.
|
|||||
| Post-S.M.U.D.G.E. Era II: Graduate School | |||||
| Continuing with my stalled muse, I did make
an attempt at NaNoWriMo in 2007
as a reboot of my summer 2007 attempt to merge The
Sight with another piece. These pieces are in
rough chronological order with regards to start dates.
|
|||||
| CyStory | |||||
| Technically this is the filename as the piece is untitled. This was my attempt at a novel, which fell apart when I basically tried to drag other pieces into it as it is set in a multiverse. When I tried to go back and revise it, I ended up with writer’s block for several months. Since then, I have swore off revisions to old pieces lest I stall again. | |||||
| Cityscape/Anarchy | |||||
| This is one of the few pieces I still return to now and again. Set in a dystopian future, it seems to be a precursor to The Failed Cities Monologues (Variant Frequencies). Obviously this is quite impossible as I started Variant Frequencies in late 2005, over four years after I wrote this piece. Regardless, this piece is structured as vignettes (usually rants) from various people in different strata of society. While it is not particularly clear, the tower in this piece is actually a leg of an orbital ring and thus has hundreds of thousands of floors. | |||||
| The Sight | |||||
| Another of the pieces I return to. It began after S.M.U.D.G.E. one evening in a winterish month when the then Lady Leslie Kung looked deeply into my eyes and declared that I do not have “The Sight.” Even now I am not inclined to disagree, I am psychically “blind” for all intents and purposes (see NaNoWriMo 2007). Incidentally, this piece, despite being unfinished, won me a third place science fiction/fantasy award at UW-Whitewater. Despite any appearance to the contrary, the show Survivor had nothing to do with the opening scene. The main influence was Arthur C. Clarke’s The Lion of Commarre, actually. | |||||

| NaNoWriMo 2007 | |||||
| My first NaNoWriMo attempt (since I tended to forget about NaNoWriMo until halfway into November). While I started with what I thought was a good idea, I stalled a couple thousand words in namely as a result of not being able to name anyone. | |||||
