Sports In The Lodge

Sports play an important role in the life of the Brothers of Alpha Pi. This year 10 brothers have competed or are competing on various Union varsity teams with great success. However sports is not only for the serious competitor as this year Chi Psi has perhaps had their best showing in intramural sports as well. With the year not over it looks like it will be another great year of sports in the lodge.

Winter Intramural Sports

Ice Hockey
Cruising to the championship game provided a false sense of security for the lodge Ice Hockey team as the seemingly unbeatable group was down 4-1 with time winding down to the team from Sigma Phi. The game looked as though it was over and a couple more goals from being a total embarrassment. However after a quick goal by Pete Gross and a penalty shot by Aaron Swan the team was right back in the game. In the final minutes Brother Swan would add both the game tying and game winning goals to cap the comeback victory.
A League Basketball
Coming into the championship game the matchup was one that could have been predicted at the start of the season. The Lodge came into the game having lost to Sigma Chi earlier by one point. This time would be different however as the lodge got off to a blazing start and never looked back blowing out Sigma Chi by 15 points. This victory left only the broomball team to win and a winter sweep would belong to the lodge.
Broomball
A classic in broomball history was played between the lodge and Phi Delta Theta. Having never really been tested during the season, the lodge looked eager for a challenge and Phi Delta Theta was willing to give it to them. A back and forth game looked like it had no resolution in sight and when regulation was called the score sat deadlocked at 1-1. In overtime neither team could get one passed the other goaltender so the game went to penalty shots. Although he scored on his penalty shot, Pat Kelley could not get his stick on the winning shot and the Lodge was sent home with a loss their first of the season.
