GOODWILL IS THE MONARCH OF THIS HOUSE - PI PI
On December 4, 1906 Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was founded at Cornell University by seven men who remained steadfast in their desire in maintaining outstanding scholoarship, and more intimate contacts than their classroom study permitted. These seven men were Henery A Callis, Charles H. Chapman, Eugene K. Jones, George B. Kelly, Nathaniel A. Murray, Robert H. Ogle, and Vertner W. Tandy. The ideals of these men were passed down through the years to various other colleges.
In 1983, the need for that form of social and academic contact was again desired by a group of eight men. These men went on to pledge through the graduate chapter in Albany, NY. By doing so, these men accomplised something no one from Union College had done before, they became men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. They establised the first black fraternity here at UNION COLLEGE, and their leadership was to be passed down to other men. Through their efforts, Pi Pi Chapter was officially founded in 1985. They had brothers of high moral character. The persistence they had in serving the community made them shine on the campus of Union. The Chapter, however, began losing the brothers because they were graduating. The last line to cross the burning sands into Alphadom was in 1987, and there was one remaining brother. When Brother Sir David A. Mullings graduated, it seemed as if what the original eight men who founded this chapter had worked so hard for was going to be taken away.
In 1989, four men with the same type of persistence stood steadfast in their desire and on May 3, 1990 these men crossed those hot and burning sands into Alphadom. By doing so, they reactivated the chapter and achieved the same form of dominance that was once held here by those elite brothers of Pi Pi. Today that same legacy of dominance has been passed down to the current brothers on campus.
