Policy

Below are policies that pertain to members of Virtual U.

General

  1. All accounts are opened, maintained, and deleted at the sole discretion of the officers and/or System Administrators of Virtual U.
  2. System Administrators have the ability to examine and modify all files and directories on Virtual U computers, including, but not limited to, email and files in your home directory.
  3. To ensure the security of the system for all, if you lose your password or believe that someone has broken into your account, send mail to vu-admin@vu.union.edu immediately. Virtual U administrators may proactively lock you out of certain services if we believe your account is in some way vulnerable to abuse.
  4. Disk space is ample, but not unlimited. Some portions of account space may be regulated by a quota system. Users who abuse unregulated storage space should be aware that large directories and/or files may be removed without warning.
  5. Accounts may be terminated without notice at any time.
  6. Virtual U will cooperate with any federal, state, local, or school officials investigating the conduct or actions of Virtual U members in regard to our computer systems.
  7. This policy will be updated on an as-needed basis. Members are encouraged to regularly review our policy.

Web Publishing

  1. Virtual U disclaims any and all responsibility for content on user, group and organization pages.
  2. Anything illegal or construed as blatantly offensive by an officer or sysadmin of Virtual U will be removed and may result in account termination or loss of privileges.
  3. You are directly responsible for the content of pages that you maintain. You must obey all federal, state, and local laws and school rules regarding the material you present in your pages. This includes, but is not limited to, copyright and indecency laws. You must determine what is applicable to the pages.
  4. If there is more than one maintainer of a group/organization page, ALL maintainers are equally responsible for the content.
  5. Users who install server-side web-based applications (including forums, wikis, etc) are responsible for keeping them securely up-to-date. Sites defaced due to a vulnerability will be removed. Any other user-installed web-based software that makes the VU system vulnerable to abuse may be disabled or removed without warning.
