Using SFTP to access your files

This will work both off-campus and on-campus.

The examples here make use of WinSCP for Windows and Fugu for Mac OS X. These programs are both freely available SFTP clients.

Step 1: Connect

Use Address or Host name users.vu.union.edu with your standard Virtual U login name and password.

Note: Instead of using your password here, you could instead use your PuTTY Private Key file. You can then press the "Save" button to save your settings so that you can easily reconnect to your storage space in the future.

Step 1.5: First time connecting

The very first time you connect to the system using WinSCP or Fugu, you will receive a message that looks like this:

This is perfectly normal. Please select "YES" to continue connecting.

Step 2: Move files

After connecting, you can drag and drop files between your remote VU file storage and your local computer.
