Service vs. Social:
Why is GSS different?

Frequently Asked Questions:
1: How is a service sorority different from a social sorority?
A service sorority comes together as an organization with the primary purpose of performing community service tasks. A social sorority comes together in an organization for the primary purpose of performing social activities. This is not to say that social sororities do not do any community service or to say that service sororities are never social. The significant difference is the ideological goal that is the catalyst for the formation of each group.

2: Why is GSS-Zeta Phi a member of IFC and not PanHel?
PanHel requires its members to be recognized by the National Panhellenic Council. Since Gamma Sigma Sigma is non-selective, it does not fall into the guidelines for recognition. Union College requires that all Greek organizations are recognized and regulated by either PanHel or the IFC. Thus, our chapter was welcomed into IFC upon forming.

3: Do service sororities ever have fun?
Of course! We are permitted to host social events provided that we abide by all national GSS regulations and Union College IFC regulations.

4: Do I have to register for Panhellenic Rush ("Women's Rush") to Rush Gamma Sig?
Not at all. Gamma Sigma Sigma is in no way associated with Panhellenic Rush. We are governed by IFC which means that we host a rush similar to that of the majority of the fraternities. See our current RUSH page for more info!
